Exclusive invitation – Special event with an Astronaut!
We are pleased to announce that the grade 6 students at St. Cecilia have been selected to attend the Canada Aviation and Space Museum for a special event with astronaut David Saint-Jacques! You read correctly: Astronaut David Saint-Jacques is back from the International Space Station to share his experience with our students!
The event will take place on Thursday, November 21, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum downtown. Our students will gather in the auditorium of the museum, where they will have the incredible opportunity to hear David Saint-Jacques speak about his experience in space. Students will also have the chance to ask him questions and meet him in person.
School bus transportation will be provided by the Canadian Space Agency and will depart at 9 a.m. Students are asked to arrive at school no later than 8:55 a.m. to board the bus at 9 a.m. in order to maintain our schedule. We will then return to the school by 12:30 p.m. for lunch.
There is no fee for this activity. Please confirm your child’s attendance by carefully reading, completing and returning BOTH the permission and consent forms as soon as possible. Due to the high publicity and media coverage of this event, it is imperative that the consent form for the use of photographs, videos and voice recordings be signed.
We are looking forward to a great day of learning!
Sincerely,
The Grade 6 teachers

WE SCARE HUNGER!
The Facts
- Thirteen percent of Canadian families do not have enough affordable, nutritious food to eat.
- Without enough food, many children feel the effects of short-term hunger, like headaches, upset stomachs and difficulty concentrating at school.
- Families who don’t have enough food to eat usually don’t have enough money to buy nutritious food. Low income affects over 4 million Canadians at any given time.
- Being hungry all the time can make kids sick and it also stops them from reaching their goals in school.
- People who access food banks come from all walks of life. Some people need support over longer periods, but most require help only occasionally or for a short period of time.
- A food package from a food bank may make a big difference for a family trying to get back on their feet after a crisis.
Take Action!
Can you imagine going to school or going to bed at night hungry? That is the reality millions of children face each day. Let’s challenge this by committing to reduce hunger in our community. Rally your classmates and plan to bring lots of non-perishable food items to school during the month of October.
