2016 WHITE ELEPHANT SALE

It's that time of year again! 

The White elephant Sale is back to raise money for the grade 6 end of year field trip as well as for our Advent hampers. We are asking the grade 6s along with St. Cecilia Community to clean out their basements in search of gently used, clean items for our sale. 

Categories include:  books, toys, stuffed animals, CDs, movies, puzzles, games, Christmas knickknacks, jewellery (no used earrings please), crafts and household items.

We are also looking for used Christmas cards that we will re-purpose. Grade 6 students are asked to bring in any craft supplies (sparkles, buttons, scrap book paper, glue, googly eyes, etc.) to add Christmas cheer to our recycling craft. 

Any donations of wrapping paper, tissue paper, bows, gift bags and gift tags would also be greatly appreciated. This is in keeping with our Gospel value of Stewardship of the Environment.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO CHANGE OUR WORLD?

As we continue our exploration of  Canada's interaction with the world, it is important that we become aware of the magnitude of the issues around the world. The good news, is that there is a plan... and we can help!

SOCIAL JUSTICE SUCCESS

It's been a very busy week ... ending with our Social Justice assembly today! The grade 6 students shared inspirational biographies, sang to inspire others and got to relish in their justice artwork.

Social Justice begins with ...

Students reflected on the actions we must take to see change in the world. They are to find words, sentences and images to 'write on the walls' and send a message to others (in French and English).

Canada's connections with the world

Today, students took a closer look at where our clothing is made. We observed that most of our clothing came from various countries in Asia. 

Students were asked to research 3 reasons why most of our clothing is from Asia and include their own opinion and reflect on their findings.

Catholic Graduate Expectation - JUSTICE

At the end of November, the grade 6 students will be organizing our CGE assembly for JUSTICE.

The aim of this restorative practice in our catholic school community is to strengthen relationships and to manage conflict and tensions by repairing harm as a way of building community (local & global) and responding to God's call.

At the end of the assembly, students will lead the school in song to raise awareness and stand up for justice. Students are encouraged to listen to the song at home and practice singing the lyrics.

Where am I?

Today, students had a chance to travel the world! We worked on asking strategic questions to pinpoint our exact locations. 

Tomorrow we will begin investigating Social Justice. 

Social justice encompasses a great many ideas. The easiest definition presumes that everyone deserves equal economic, political, and social rights and opportunities. Teaching children that everyone is deserving of such things means teaching them to value diversity and all people.
